The advanced search text field only allows letters and numbers. A very common search term may be the experiment name such as 'b30.042a'. If this is entered, the search returns with an error field indicating: 'Error: Search text contains invalid characters - please use only letters and numbers'

I believe the period (.) character at the very least should be allowed. A very common search may be something like:

'b30.042a atm month'
