In the search results page they appear to be a regex pattern. (.+\.nc) Currently the file download page doesn't do regex. (And trying to do so in application code may be very expensive in terms processing, memory usage, and time)

When the data download page is reached from the search results the default pattern is (%.nc). The example text if for using * as a wildcard.
