Future versions of DML may support HTTP as well as GridFTP downloads. The gateway should support both of these options if possible. This has been suggested by ESG collaboration several times (in particular LBNL and NARCCAP data managers.)

This capability is especially useful for Windows platform users for bulk downloads when wget and/or GridFTP (due to firewalling) are not suitable options.
