In recent testing and use, it has been noted that variables are hard to identify and use. Don commented:

On DataVisualization - What's the collating scheme for the variables in the pull-down menu? It's difficult to find things; this needs to be more user-friendly.

Note that a related issue exists in that the variable names found in the UI (from the LAS server) are the "long names" and *not* the CF standard names. This makes integration with other parts of the system (browsing, searching) confusing as multiple names are used for a particular variable.
